On the banks of the Persian Gulf, a new hospitality tower rises up in the sky. But this is no ordinary building. The Katara Towers cross like the two swords and are meant to pay homage to Qatar's national emblem. The building is shared by two luxury hotels, the Fairmont Doha and Raffles, with each taking up one of the curved towers. Located in the city's green district Lusail, Katara Towers opened to the public in January 2023.

The two hotels divide the 300,000 square meters of space within the building and both manage to pack high-end luxury into every corner. Raffles is an all-suite accommodation offering stunning views of the Gulf and downtown. Most of its 132 suites have an outdoor terrace, and each features a personal butler service that can help cater the experiences to guests' needs. Some suites have specific themes, such as a Parisian suite designed to look like a Haussmann apartment in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Sprawling over two entire floors, the Royal Suite is the epitome of luxury and is designed for visiting dignitaries and VIPs. With double-height domed ceilings, the suite includes a game room, cinema, and a personal spa with a hammam. But even if you can't quite afford the Royal Suite, there are plenty of public spaces to give you a taste of what it would be like.

The rooftop bar is filled with gold-veined marble as a contemporary nod to the Silk Route. Guests are invited to take in live music and sip on a cocktail on the outdoor terrace. Alternatively, you can grab a bite at the Italian restaurant helmed by Michelin-star chef Enrico Crippa or lounge in the art deco-inspired cigar bar, which is filled with rare editions of 6,000 literary classics.

Across the way at the Fairmont Doha, there's also no shortage of special experiences. This part of the tower takes design inspiration from its location on the water. Every room and suite was designed to make guests feel like they are staying on a luxury yacht. As such, the crisp, white decor gives a light and airy feel to the space.

There are 361 rooms and suites at the Fairmont Doha and those looking to be truly pampered can upgrade to Fairmont Gold. This hotel-within-a-hotel comes with perks like a dedicated butler service, as well as access to an exclusive pool and lounge. All guests will also have five innovative venues for dining and drinking to select from, as well as a cutting-edge fitness center and world-class space facilities.

For families, Fairmont Doha also provides daycare as well as a kids' club filled with activities. From ball pits and climbing walls to gaming areas and an arts and crafts center, there are plenty of activities for all ages.

Both hotels are managed by Accor and for the best rates, guests are encouraged to book directly with the hotels via the Fairmont Doha and Raffles websites.

Sumptuous Boutique Hotel in India Is a Hidden-Gem Swathed in Red Bedroom at Villa Palladio Jaipur

Inspired by the tradition of great hotels of the past, Villa Palladio Jaipur is a country estate that transports guests to another world. The brainchild of entrepreneur Barbara Miolini, this nine-room boutique hotel located just outside Jaipur, India, opened its doors in September 2022. Nestled on three acres, the estate has been transformed into an opulent retreat thanks to Miolini and Dutch designer Marie-Jean Oudejans.

Miolini and Oudejans had a lot to work with, as the property's existing Rajasthani haveli was in good shape and provided a starting point for other renovations. Not only did they create a large veranda and pool house, but they also worked with a landscaper to transform the grounds into a Mughal garden filled with water features.

In terms of aesthetics, Villa Palladio Jaipur combines European and Indian sensibilities. The white exterior is accented with pops of red; the color provides a through line, as the interiors are painted in different shades ranging from deep crimson to cherry red. And, in keeping with Jaipur's reputation as the Pink City, pink accents pop up across the villa. Black and white checkboard floors provide a contrast to the floral motifs painted on the walls, giving the space an eclectic, retro feel that is reminiscent of a 19th-century “Grand Hotel.”

Pillars, niches, and multifoil arches all add to the architectural interest of the villa, while the local, hand-crafted Rococo furniture fits the space perfectly. For all of its visual interest, Villa Palladio is remarkably balanced. Miolini and Oudejans have walked the line between visually pleasing and overwhelming perfectly. While there is always something to see, it's always just enough to leave one satisfied.

In addition to the luxurious surroundings, guests are also provided with plenty of amenities. These include cocktails at the pavilion bar, an extravagant breakfast feast, as well as spa treatments, and a yoga room that overlooks the garden. And, of course, there is also plenty of space to lounge by the pool on the candy-cane-striped daybeds and take in the fresh air.

Villa Palladio Jaipur is a stunning boutique hotel inspired by the grand tradition of 19th-century hospitality.

From sweeping landscapes to intricate buildings, Taiwan is an island nation that many tourists frequent. That's why it can seem odd that one of their most famous landmarks are two humble mailboxes. Located in the Zhongshan District in the city of Taipei, these unique mailboxes have captured the public's imagination thanks to their appearance. Unlike most mailboxes, these two, known as “Little Red” (or “Xiao Hong” ) and “Little Green” ( “Xiao Lu”) are severely bent. But beyond it's cute-looking tilt, they also tell a much deeper story.

Due to its location, Taiwan is prone to typhoons, as it is usually hit by three or four cyclones a year. In 2015, a particularly bad one known as Typhoon Soudelor struck the island. During the storm, a billboard got loose due to the heavy winds and hit the mailboxes. While it bent their posts, it didn't tear them down.

After the storm was over, citizens of Taipei came across the newly leaning mailboxes and fell in love with them. Not only did they look adorable, but they were also a symbol of resilience and survival. The new attraction seemed to say, “You can strike us, but we'll stay on our feet with a smile on our face.”

Social media quickly caught wind of these new landmarks and people began visiting them. It wasn’t long before they started staging fun photos with the new landmarks, using forced perspective—similar to the way tourists pose in Italy with the leaning tower of Pisa. This led authorities to embrace the symbolism of the mailboxes, and instead of repairing them, they added a plaque telling their story in Chinese, Japanese, and English.

According to SoraNews24, the plaque reads: “On August 8th, 2015, Typhoon Soudelor struck Taiwan. We were hit in the heads by a signboard as a result and couldn’t help but lean over from the pain. It was so painful in fact, we can’t stand up anymore. But we persevered: we didn’t fall over after all. We have to take life as it comes and in a way, I think we look more artsy and sophisticated this way! Did we inspire you? Take a picture with us to remind yourselves that we are all survivors and can persevere no matter what.”

The best part of this Taipei attraction is that the mailboxes are still operational. The letters deposited there are even marked with a special stamp that depicts the famous Taiwanese tilted mailboxes. If you want to visit them, they are located near the intersection of Nanjing East Road and Longjiang Road.

After a typhoon left two mailboxes in Taiwan severely tilted, residents decided to keep them that way as a symbol of resilience and survival.

Architecture and travel are intertwined. People often journey to foreign lands for the opportunity to see great landmarks and the breathtaking Capela das Almas, aka Chapel of Souls, is definitely a must-see. Located in Porto, Portugal, this architectural attraction is covered in 15,947 blue and white ceramic tiles. These individual pieces form one massive beautiful design over the entire exterior of the neoclassical Saint Catherine Chapel. The panels were added by Eduardo Leite in 1929 and were created with a nod to the Delft tiles of the 19th century.

Altogether, the different scenes are awe-inspiring in their monumentality. But the intricacies of the different works beg a closer look. The illustrations feature depictions of the lives of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine through various religious stories, including the death of Saint Francis and the martyrdom of Saint Catherine. Other details, which include flying angels and fancy decorative filigree, are also present.

As if the exterior of the building couldn’t be any more exquisite, the front of the chapel contains a stained glass window over the door featuring dal almas (the souls) in Purgatory being washed with the blood of Christ.

The Chapel of Souls is located in Porto's Sаntо Ildеfоnsо distriсt, in the middle of a big shopping street called Ruа dе Sаntа Саtаrinа. With its proximity to commerce and a unique façade, it's one of the most visited (and Instagrammed) tourist attractions in the area.

Lots of people dream of traveling around the world, but the logistics and price tag make it seem like a far-fetched dream. But what if you could explore all seven continents in just one go? Life at Sea Cruises is now offering a unique opportunity—a once-in-a-lifetime cruise that will visit 135 countries and 375 ports over the span of three years.

Travelers will sail around the world aboard the MV Gemini, a 30-year-old cruise ship. The vessel can accommodate up to 1,074 people in its 400 cabins. The company behind this adventure is Miray Cruises, which has three decades of experience in the cruise industry.

The MV Gemini will cover more than 130,000 miles, visiting both small ports and some of the largest cities on the planet. To make the most out of this, it will dock for up to seven nights in metropolises like Shanghai and Singapore. The route begins in South America, going down the Atlantic coast to Half Moon Island in Antarctica. It then heads north to visit Central America, Mexico, the Pacific coast of the U.S. and Canada, as well as Hawaii and Alaska.

From there, the vessel crosses the Pacific Ocean, reaching China, Japan, and South Korea before going down to Australia, the South Pacific, and Southern Asia. After some stops in India, the cruise then goes around Africa, visiting places such as Cape Town, Accra, and Casablanca. It then crosses the Strait of Gibraltar for a 177-day, 74-destination European tour.

On top of the many amenities that make a cruise trip fun while at sea—like two restaurants, a café, a pool deck, and nighttime entertainment—the cruise also hopes to attract digital nomads with top of the line remote working facilities, including high-speed wifi and conference rooms. “Professionals need connectivity, the right amenities and the functionality to perform their jobs,” says Mikael Petterson, Life at Sea Cruises' managing director. “There is no other cruise that offers this sort of flexibility to their customers.” The cruise will also have a hospital with free medical visits, a pharmacy, and healthcare professionals that can even perform certain surgeries onboard.

The Life at Sea cruise will set sail from Istanbul on November 1, picking up passengers in Barcelona and Miami before going full speed into its worldwide voyage. The prices for this whirlwind adventure begin at $30,000 per person per year for those staying in the 130-square-foot “Virtual Inside” stateroom, and the larger Balcony Suites are up to $109,999 per person. All meals, drinks, and essentials are included.

If this cruise piques your wanderlust, you can take a look at its thorough itinerary and book a cabin at Life at Sea Cruises' website.

Life at Sea Cruises is offering a once-in-a-lifetime cruise that will visit 135 countries and 375 ports over the span of three years.

What makes the people of a certain country happier than others? Is it the weather? The quality of life? The World Happiness Report has dedicated itself to answering these questions. To find the world's happiest countries, the organization measures income, health, freedom, generosity, and the absence of corruption. After putting all the numbers together, one Nordic country took the crown, yet again. Finland has been named the happiest country in the world for the sixth year in a row.

“The findings are clear. The ethos of a country matters—are people trustworthy, generous, and mutually supportive? The institutions also matter—are people free to make important life decisions? And the material conditions of life matter—both income and health,” the team behind the World Happiness Report writes. “The development of virtuous behaviors needs a supportive social and institutional environment if it is to result in widespread happiness.”

So what countries are the happiest in the world? After Finland, Denmark comes in second and Iceland comes third, rounding the podium. Israel, breaking away from Nordic countries, is in fourth, followed by the Netherlands in fifth place. The highest-ranked non-European country is New Zealand, which takes the 10th place. Canada is ranked 13th, while the United States is in 15th place, climbing a spot from last year.

For their annual rankings, The World Happiness Report relies mostly on data from the main life evaluation question in the Gallup World Poll. “The natural way to measure a nation’s happiness is to ask a nationally-representative sample of people how satisfied they are with their lives these days,” states the executive summary of the report. Participants are asked to rate their current lives on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the best and 0 being the worst. Finland's score was 7.804, leading with a good advantage over Denmark's 7.586. Niger came last with a 4.501 grade.

The World Happiness Report has been working on making it an operational objective for governments by drawing from self-reported perceptions of satisfaction. The report states, “More and more people have come to believe that our success as countries should be judged by the happiness of our people.”

Futuristic Travel Trailer Swivels Open To Reveal a Deck for Lounging on the Road Swiveling Camper Trailer

Some camper caravans think outside the box, and the newly produced Romotow is one of them. It's one of the most original travel trailers on the market with a sleek, futuristic design that rotates to reveal another part of its layout. When swiveled open, it has a covered deck alongside a sleeper main cabin for four to six people.

The awe-inspiring design is made possible with an automatic hydraulic system. It's powered by a lithium battery that's charged with help from solar panels on the trailer's roof. The mechanism pushes the cabin outward 90 degrees, creating an L-shape and making the deck accessible. The previously hidden patio space has a teak-like appearance with plenty of room for outdoor furniture. Additionally, there’s an option for built-in conveniences like a fold-down bench seat, a table built into its rounded front, or mesh side walls to keep the bugs away.

Camper caravans are not known for having a lot of space, but there are ways to make a small area feel larger. Romotow does this with wraparound windows in its dining area. The dinette doubles as sleeping quarters, transforming into a single double bed or two single beds. Additionally, there’s a lift-away double bed.

Past the dining area, there is a kitchenette that’s available in two styles depending on the needs of the traveler. Regardless of what someone chooses, there’s a full dry bathroom behind it and a private bedroom—complete with a closet and two circular windows—beyond that.

Add-ons like additional solar panels, mounted TVs, and an outdoor projection system make the Romotow comfortable for more than just a road trip every once and a while; it’s something someone could live in on a full-time basis.

The Romotow is manufactured in New Zealand and has a starting price of NZ$429,000 (about US$270,000).

Finland is known for its sweeping winter landscapes and spectacular views of the Aurora Borealis. Another distinction of this Nordic nation is that it is considered the happiest country in the world, according to the World Happiness Report. In fact, it has held the title for six years straight. Hoping to spread the joy, their national tourism organization, Visit Finland, is launching a campaign to invite people from around the world to learn to enjoy life the Finnish way—and take in the serene scenes that nurture those feelings.

“Since Finland is the world’s happiest country, we’ve set up an in-person masterclass in Finland this June. If selected, you get a four-day trip to Finland where you can learn the methods to finding your inner Finn,” they write.  Titled “Masterclass of Happiness,” Visit Finland's program will take place in June 2023 at the Kuru Resort, a destination made of private villas, each with their own spa and sauna for visitors to take in the greenery and the long days of the Lakeland region, famous for its forests and bodies of water.

While the quality of life surely helps (after all, the World Happiness Report measures income, health, freedom, generosity, and the absence of corruption), to the organizers, the Finnish state of mind is a skill. As such, it can be taught and thus shared with others. “We believe that happiness is not a mystical ability you are born with—it’s an approach to life that you can learn,” writes the team of Visit Finland. They describe the formula as a “balanced life on the quirky side.”

That's why the program makes the most of the Finnish summer and will offer its guests a program featuring things such as nature-based crafts, food for body and soul, exercise in forests and lakes, calming sounds and music, and general aspects of the Finnish way. Throughout the process, there will be exclusive sessions with Finnish experts who will work as personal coaches.

If you'd like to partake in this unique masterclass and win a four-day trip to Finland, you can sign up by filling out the form on Visit Finland's website and then joining the social media challenge on TikTok or Instagram explaining why you believe you may secretly be a Finn and your reasons for wanting to join this adventure. You have until April 2, 2023 to apply, and the 10 winners will be announced in May. For those who do not win, Visit Finland plans to make the master class available online—so no matter where you are, you can add some Finnish-style happiness to your life.

Italian Spa Invites You to Step Into Torrential Rain in Its Unique “Cinema Pool” QC Terme Milano Cinematic Spa

When British travel bloggers Henry Purchase and Robyn Miller booked a day at the QC Terme spa in Milan, they weren't sure what to expect. They hadn't seen much online, but at less than $50 per person for full access to the spa, including lunch and drinks, they figured it was worth a try. What they ended up experiencing only confirmed their instincts, particularly when they entered the spa's epic cinema pool. The resulting TikTok clips of that experience, complete with torrential rain, ended up going viral with nearly 70 million combined views.

Purchase and Miller shared a separate tour of the spa complex with all its innovative amenities and delicious lunch options, but it was the multisensory cinema pool that captured everyone's attention. According to QC Terme, the experience is inspired by Milan's historic Cinema Apollo. This movie theater was transformed into an Apple Store in 2017, but the spa's cinema pool brings a touch of that magic to visitors. Images are projected on screen surrounding the pool and are designed to transport guests to another world.

The spa also mentions “gifting the emotion of a bath in the rain.” While that sounds tranquil and relaxing, the duo's clips show that the rain bath is more like stepping into a storm. A mountainous landscape is projected onto the walls with stormy clouds overhead and lightning strikes as water pours down. Though it doesn't actually appear relaxing, it certainly is unique.

Luckily, it seems like there are other, more classic, experiences at the spa as well, so you can balance your time. The sprawling complex is one of twelve QC spas around the world. Entry to the spa starts at $49 (€46), which includes access to all of the wellness areas as well as slippers, a robe, a towel, and an evening aperitif.

Purchase and Miller highly recommend indulging in the spa's wellness lunch. “You got a whole hour of an all-you-can-eat buffet with hot and cold food, desserts, and bread… you can help yourself to any wine of your choice and beer on draft.”

Their experience certainly shows that you don't need to spend a lot of money to have a luxurious—and memorable—day at the spa.
